What is "Kanzelamt"?
“Kanzelamt” means something like “Office for sermons”. This initiative is meant to supply German ministers with some fresh input for their theological work.
In order to help German ministers in preparing their sermons we offer them interviews with non-believers and theologians from abroad about the Bible text which the Protestant Church in Germany, the EKD, proposes for that week’s Sunday. We collect comments, associative thoughts, opinions and ideas about the Bible text from three different groups:
- German people who are not churchgoers and who are unfamiliar with the Christian Faith
- Various people from all spheres of society in Germany (science, culture, economy, politics...)
- Various (especially young) theologians from all over the world (as a kind of theological developmental aid for Germany)
We then communicate the collection of these associations and comments to the German ministers through this website.
What about you?
We are always looking for students, ministers and theologians from abroad who are willing to give a short interview by e-mail about one particular Bible text. In that interview we ask some questions about their understanding of this text within their own context.
